How to Start

The build-from-nothing path. Instead of a preset house you place and size the volumes yourself from building blocks — walls, floors, stairs and windows — then decorate the result. The default block materials are white, which is why custom builds usually start life looking Dorfic.

Starting point

Empty plot

Where to Start: Pick the blank plot on the home selection screen. You start outdoors on open grass with the full building toolkit — no shell to remove, no preset to fight.

How It Works

Building Blocks and Volumes

Construction uses the same placement toolkit as furniture — place, move, resize, rotate, recolor, and an ignore-collisions mode — applied to architectural blocks. Start from one box volume and grow: a single-story box with door and window cutouts is a complete home; every additional box is another room or floor.

The White-Box Advantage

Default blocks are white, which gives your build the Dorfic gallery look for free and keeps lighting honest — white surfaces show off the game's real-time lighting and make photo-mode bloom presets read cleanly. You can reskin every surface later; starting white is not a commitment.

Plan window walls toward the view. Grass, palm trees and the city skyline are free set dressing — a build with picture windows photographs ten times better than the same build facing a blank edge.

Collision-Free Placement

Ignoring collisions is how mezzanines, wall-mounted decor and tight staircase nooks get built — pieces occupy the same space on purpose. The cost is visual: overlapping geometry can z-fight or clip in screenshots. Use collision-free placement for the assembly pass, then separate anything that visibly intersects.

Step-by-Step Loop

Preparation

Decide the build's one-line brief before placing the first block: "white loft with an aquarium wall", "Eco cabin ringed by plants", "office tower lobby". A blank plot with no brief grows into an unsalvageable layout by room six; a one-line brief survives the whole build.

The Core Loop

  • Block out the footprint: one box per room, sized generously — resizing walls later is cheaper than cramming furniture now.
  • Cut doors and windows, orient window walls toward the view or the sun.
  • Walk the empty shell before decorating: if the walk feels wrong empty, furniture will not fix it.
  • Decorate room by room, anchor piece first — the same loop as the preset houses.
  • Photo pass at the end; fix the two worst frames instead of rebuilding.

Co-op Building

Custom builds are where co-op earns its keep: one player blocks out volumes while another sources and stages furniture, and room-by-room ownership keeps two builders from fighting the same corner. The room code stays open while you build, so friends can drop in and out of a session.

What You Get

  • A house that is exactly yours — and the building fluency every future plot reuses
